Premarital Counseling

Learn how to fight well before you say "I do"

You love each other, and you're planning a life together. You might also be wondering how you'll handle the harder parts: money, family, sex, who does what at home, and the disagreements that are coming whether or not you're ready for them.

You don't need a problem to benefit from premarital counseling. Learning how to communicate, repair, and stay connected through conflict is one of the best things you can do before the wedding.

Fights worth having

I often tell couples that therapy is about learning how to fight. Disagreement isn't a sign something is wrong. It's a natural part of being in relationship. What matters is your ability to say what you're thinking, how you're feeling, and what your partner's impact is on you, without triggering each other's defenses.

In our work together, I'll help you identify what you actually feel, practice saying it in a way your partner can hear, and build on listening, reflecting, and asking real questions. It's not always about agreeing. It's about feeling seen.

What we'll talk about

Every couple is different, and we'll go where your relationship needs us to go. Common topics include:

  • Communication and conflict. How you each handle stress, what your fights tend to look like, and how to repair afterward

  • Money. Spending, saving, debt, and what money means to each of you

  • Family and in-laws. Boundaries, traditions, and the families you each come from

  • Intimacy and sex. I'm willing and encouraged to talk about sex, because it matters

  • Roles and the household load. Who does what, and what feels fair

  • Kids, careers, and where you're headed. Big decisions are easier when you've talked about them early

  • Together and apart. Building a relationship that holds both closeness and independence

“It is not a lack of love, but a lack of friendship that makes unhappy marriages.”
